Forest School

The Magic of Forest School:

At Orchidale, our Forest School is nestled within a beautiful estate in the Royal Norfolk Showground. Forest School isn’t just something we do - it’s who we are. Our ethos is built on the understanding that nature offers some of the most fantastic and holistic learning experiences and that meaningful learning happens when children are given the time, space, and trust to explore the natural world around them. Whether they’re building with clay, creating magic potions in the mud kitchen, asking curious questions about the trees and plants, or sharing warm drinks in their own Base Camp, every moment is magical. Through seasonal changes, wildlife encounters, and our ongoing rewilding project, children are not only learning in nature but learning from it, gaining a deep sense of connection, responsibility, and joy.

Why is Forest School at Orchidale so meaningful?

The wonderful benefits of Forest School at Orchidale are long lasting. Children develop independence, resilience, and emotional well-being through real, hands-on experiences in a rich, natural environment. From climbing, digging, and using tools to exploring STEM concepts, and observing seasonal changes, every activity is purposeful. Risky play helps children learn to assess danger and build confidence, while shared snack times and cultural traditions nurture a strong sense of community. Our rewilding project and wildlife-rich surroundings encourage empathy, environmental awareness, and a life long connection to the world around them.

Small hands with big tools. The bow saw teaches more than just cutting. It teaches care, control, and confidence.
