Curriculum

Our Curriculum
At Orchidale we believe that every child is unique and learns in their own way.
Our curriculum is planned in the moment based on the children’s interest and needs, children
learn best when they are motivated and engaged so we always adapt and reflect upon our
activities to keep them relevant to our children.
Our team create invitations of play and provocation to promote a sense of curiosity and wonder
amongst the children –“ we wonder what might happen ?” Prompts early science and
predictions or teamwork and collaboration to achieve a desired outcome.
Outdoor learning is a huge part of nursery curriculum and ethos, we believe that outdoor
learning is essential for all children and we are very lucky to have a large outdoor space at
Orchidale that all our children can access as well as our forest school off site. It allows children
to learn about nature and their environment around them, encouraging independence, curiosity
and risk taking.
We have two minibuses that we use to head on to trips into the community – providing
opportunities to learn about everyday roles and responsibilities such as buying some cooking
ingredients from the shop to take back to the nursery. We like to build a sense of community for
our children and pride ourselves on our regular outings.
We welcome a wide array of visitors that come into the setting, so no day is the same- visits
from professionals such as police, firefighters, teachers and sports coaches as well as animal
encounters.
As part of our ethos we aspire for the children to transition to school from Orchidale as
confident, curious and independent learners ready for their next stage in their early years.
